This year Patek Philippe has done an even better and this time for a good cause. Such extraordinary steps are taken once every two years.

This is probably the last watch of its breed and the last cased 5004 (which was replaced by the 5204 at Basel in 2012). To celebrate an important biennial Event and a good cause, the watch was cased in a Titanium case. This is the third known Titanium Patek (the other two were a 5000T and a 5712T) and the only 5004 ever made in that metal. It will be sold at The Only Watch Auction by Antiquorum in Monaco on September 28, 2013 to benefit the AMM, a Monaco based Non profit organization which aims at promoting and accelerating the scientific and medical research to find treatments as fast as possible in order to slow down and eventually heal Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

The 5004T has a solid gold dial plate, black with hand-guilloché carbon pattern, gold applied numerals, I have never seen that pattern on any other Patek. Also notice that the bicompax subdials are in silver in contrast to the black carbon dial. Even the calf leather strap is embossed with a carbon pattern, red hand stitching. Now, lets look at the hands; with a white hand and a red split second hand, probably another unique feature to this 5004. Titanium prong buckle. Interchangeable titanium full back and sapphire crystal case back. Is it enough for another record?

The last Patek sold at Only Watch 2011 caused a sensation and was sold for nearly US$2 millions. Most probably the sportiest of all Patek perpetual chronograph ever made, sold in a city with a legendary racing track at an important watch auction, combined this with a unique case and dial and you are most probably looking at a very expensive watch, so pull out your checkbook and remember that it is for a good cause.

“This is a fantastic car to drive and remains extremely rapid as well. We take great pride in making sure all the cars Bentley owns continue to regularly compete or run and are not museum exhibits, which is very much the Bentley way, and we are all looking forward to the unique Mille Miglia experience.”

The car is perhaps best known for its epic duel with a 7 litre ‘Kompressor’ Mercedes (also supercharged) at Le Mans in 1930 with Birkin putting his off-side wheels on the grass as he completed a typically daring pass of his Mercedes opponent Rudolf Caracciola at 120mph. The Blower immediately threw one of its rear tyre treads, but somehow Birkin carried on to set the fastest lap.

Sadly Birkin’s campaign ended after 82 laps but the immense pressure he applied to the Mercedes is wildly credited with assisting his fellow Bentley Boys Woolf Barnato and Glenn Kidston to win the race in their Bentley Speed Six.

The second Bentley Blower to take-on Mille Miglia was completed in 1930 and is fitted with a beautiful Vanden Plas Open, Sports Four Seater body. It was owned by Bentley Motors as a customer demonstrator car before passing into private ownership. An early review praised it as “a car with the strongest possible individuality and it is certain that it is immensely likeable no matter what angle one may regard it”.

Repurchased by Bentley Motors in 1997, the car continues to turn heads at Bentley customer events across the world and is still faithfully fulfilling demonstration rides well into its ninth decade.

“There are currently over 100,000 miles on this elegant Blower Bentley but we’re certain it has completed many more than this,” comments Richard Charlesworth.

“However, everyone at Bentley is confident the car will run for many, many years to come and will complete the 1,000 mile round-trip to and from Brescia.”

Old Billingsgate, the original London Fish Market, was transformed into a bucolic English country scene with grassy paths and artful displays of herbs, vegetables and flowers.  Among the tables, cooking pods named after traditional British produce such as Golden Beetroot, Cornish Artichoke and Yorkshire Rhubarb were positioned so as to give the connoisseur audience an optimum view of the meal in the making.

After a Pommery champagne reception, the Dîner began with Raymond Blanc, Claude Bosi and Andrew Fairlie leading the Relais & Châteaux Grands Chefs tribe to their allocated cooking pods.

Dream teams of chefs included an all-female line-up (Hélène Darroze of Restaurant Hélène Darroze in France, Annie Féolde of Enoteca Pinchiorri in Italy, and Margot Janse of Le Quartier Français in South Africa) and a “Loiseau” signature team (Patrick Bertron of Le Relais Bernard Loiseau in France, Michael Caines of Gidleigh Park in England, and Hiroshi Yamagushi of Kobe Kitano Hotel in Japan).  At the Table d’Honneur Relais & Châteaux International President Jaume Tàpies hosted 20 very special guests on a magnificent banquet style table and Raymond Blanc and Gary Jones of Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons in England teamed up with Andrew Fairlie of Restaurant Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles in Scotland and Patrick Henriroux of La Pyramide near Lyon in France.

Each team prepped, cooked and presented their creations working with seasonal local produce to demonstrate and marry their combined talent and individual skills.   The meal was accompanied by the finest of Pommery champagnes including Cuvée Louise Pommery Rosé Millésime 2000, Cuvée Louise Millésime 1990 and Cuvée Louise Pommery Millésime 1999.

At the end of the dinner, Lord Dalmeny, Deputy Chairman of Sotheby’s UK, conducted a live auction and provoked a furious bidding war for six unique experiential prizes.  Each lot was exclusively created by Relais & Châteaux and their event partners.  They included the ultimate “Road to Happiness” of 31 overnight stays in different Relais & Châteaux hotels across the UK & Ireland, the most exquisite and prestigious experience in Champagne with Pommery and the ultimate Silversea cruise.  The night raised over £100,000 from the live and silent auctions with all proceeds going to the Grand Chefs’ chosen charity Action Against Hunger, the international humanitarian organization committed to ending child hunger.

Relais & Châteaux paid tribute to the Grands Chefs inviting each to the stage for a medal presentation to rapturous applause.  The Chefs returned to their pods to sign the menus for every guest to treasure as a memento of a special evening.

After the performance all 46 chefs headed for a wrap-up party at The Corinthia to celebrate and prolong London’s gastronomic event of the year.

Commenting on the success of the evening, President of Relais & Châteaux Jaume Tàpies said: “Passion, extraordinary British produce, the world’s best culinary talents and exceptional generosity were just some of the ingredients that contributed to an unforgettable event.  46 Relais & Châteaux Grands Chefs came from all around the world to celebrate London as a leading gourmet capital.  By cooking together for passionate food lovers they demonstrated that good food combined with friendship is the best recipe for happiness”.

After the online audition that lasted three exciting weeks during which hundreds of applicants submitted images and short videos of themselves applying makeup on a model, Faces carefully studied all applications and selected eight finalists; Raffle Salem, Lina Zoghaib, Ange Maalouf, Risellene Ikene, Lina Hussein, Namariq El Mansoury, Rasha Hamzeh, and Hajira Mehalia will have the chance to realize their passion.

Faces also revealed the three jury members who will be following the contestants and eliminating one of them each week, until a winner is announced at the end of the show. To guarantee diversified and fresh perspectives on the competition, Faces chose the jury from different, yet makeup and beauty relevant sectors; Aiisha Ramadan (fashion designer), Nadine El Chaer (editor in chief of Ahlan! Arabic) and Zahra Kadom (makeup artist and owner of Blo Out beauty salon), will be examining participants’ progress every week and judging their work based on skills, creativity and capabilities.
