The first ever EOS to feature integrated Wi-Fi connectivity, the EOS 6D enables photographers to share their work immediately after shooting. Images can be wirelessly transferred to external storage devices, uploaded to Facebook and YouTube, or printed wirelessly using a Canon Wi-Fi enabled printer. Alternatively, movies and images can be viewed on DLNA-enabled HDTVs – enabling high-quality, big-screen viewing. After the online audition that lasted three exciting weeks during which hundreds of applicants submitted images and short videos of themselves applying makeup on a model, Faces carefully studied all applications and selected eight finalists; Raffle Salem, Lina Zoghaib, Ange Maalouf, Risellene Ikene, Lina Hussein, Namariq El Mansoury, Rasha Hamzeh, and Hajira Mehalia will have the chance to realize their passion.

Faces also revealed the three jury members who will be following the contestants and eliminating one of them each week, until a winner is announced at the end of the show. To guarantee diversified and fresh perspectives on the competition, Faces chose the jury from different, yet makeup and beauty relevant sectors; Aiisha Ramadan (fashion designer), Nadine El Chaer (editor in chief of Ahlan! Arabic) and Zahra Kadom (makeup artist and owner of Blo Out beauty salon), will be examining participants’ progress every week and judging their work based on skills, creativity and capabilities.

The fleet participating in the 2013 edition is made up of seven to 45-metre yachts from ten nations, divided into “Vintage”, “Classic”, “Traditional”, “Modern Classic”, “Spirit of Tradition” and “Tall Ships” categories, on the basis of their construction year and type. Wood and metal yachts may enter as may fibreglass craft with a full long keel that are descendants of wooden boat designs. Applications from other types of boat will be evaluated by a special expert committee.

The regatta programme sees the boats arrive and register on April 16^th and 17^th. The Concours d’Elegance, the Classic Single-handed Race and the official Skippers’ Briefing all take place on Thursday, April 18^th. Four fleet races are also scheduled between April 19^th and 22^nd in the stretch of sea between English Harbour and Falmouth Harbour. Owners, crews, guests and international media attending the regatta may avail of the Panerai Lounge on the dockside or the facilities of the Antigua Yacht Club. From this year, the clubhouse, which has been renovated and upgraded, will also provide a pleasant meeting place for post-race discussions and strategy planning.

The Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta is a genuinely unmissable opportunity to admire some of the surviving designs from the drawing boards of the most legendary designers in yachting history, including Americans Nathanael G. Herreshoff, Sparkman & Stephens and John G. Alden, Scot William Fife, Italian Vincenzo Baglietto, and Van de Stadt of Holland.

Participants will include Lone Fox, a 1957 19-metre ketch attempting to repeat her victory of 2012, the 1961 Stormvogel, used in the movie Dead Calm starring a young Nicole Kidman, the 43-metre luxury charter schooner Zaca a Te Moana, and the two-master Bolero, a historic 1949 ocean racer  that once served as the New York Yacht Club’s flagship.

Antigua will also be welcoming back the Spirit of Tradition, Wild Horses, the first of the new W-Class 76, built in 1998 to a design by Joel White from cold-moulded cedar and Douglas fir. This very fast 23-metre spent several seasons sailing the Mediterranean before returning home to the US.

New entries will include the Marconi cutter, The Blue Peter, a 1930 20-metre which has been an eager participant in all the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge regattas since 2005. Matthew Barker’s yacht also finished third in the Panerai Transat Classique 2012, a 3,100-mile dash across the Atlantic between Portugal and the island of Barbados held last December.

Another new entry is the now-Norwegian-owned Sincerity, a stunning 28-metre ketch entirely designed and built at the Baglietto yard in Varazze here in Italy in 1928. During a 1980s restoration, fittings from a former Orient Express cabin were also installed in her interior.  Over the last decade, Sincerity has sailed extensively between the USA, Northern Europe, the Baltic States and the Mediterranean.

In the context of the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge calendar, the Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta remains very much a stand-alone event independent of both the Mediterranean and North American circuits. The Mediterranean circuit, of course, gets underway with Les Voiles d’Antibes (29^th May – 2^nd June 2013).

The road to Basel World is full of stories beyond enjoying this great, calm city. After our morning walk by the lake fuels us with energy, we meet up with passionate cigar-man Vahe Gérard, who takes us through the cigar world of Gérard Père et Fils, lighting up a mild cigar by Gérard Geneva. We had an open and interesting cigar related discussion full of stories that one can’t hear on the news or see in Hollywood pictures. We then took an exclusive tour of the world’s biggest humidor, his world bank of cigars, and visited their boutique in the Grand Kempinski, ending up at lunch in a nice lounge developed by Vahe himself.

To keep the momentum of the cigar realm burning, we visited the oldest Davidoff boutique in the world which was revamped in 2014, and had a chat with the GM, before enjoying a last walk in the streets of Geneva.

We are now on the train to Basel, discovering the scenery while we cross from one city to the other on this sunny day. We brought you a glimpse of our trip over to Basel World 2013, while we prepare detailed encounters of our journey.
